Stills from the film »Remote X«
Based on a theatre play by Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll)

2014

The collaboration of Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll) and Expander Film is shot in different locations in Zürich, Lisbon, Berlin and Avignon. The film combines the urban landscapes of these cities with their differences and similarities commented by an computer generated voiceover dealing with topics of swarm behaviour of humans and interaction with artificial intelligence.

Hordes of people who have never met in the real world swarm out on virtual treasure hunts while playing online games. In "Remote X" we're a horde of people wearing radio headphones, swarming out into four real citys.

The synthetic voice in their headphones directs the movements of our swarm. Artificial Intelligence explores unknown territories, mustering human activity from a remote perspective. And yet the voice sounds more human to us as we progress. "Remote X" lays a trail through the city for this swarm.
